About the Course by owners, Bob and Sharman Wilson
Our golf course architect, David Druzisky, is a genius. His design of our course is one of the most beautiful links style courses in the country. David designed the course so each hole seems to fit naturally into the landscape. When playing the course, the golfer feels like each hole was always there. David also designed the course to create visual excitement from looking at the holes as well as looking at the Teton range in the background.
In keeping with the links style design, we imported grasses from Scotland to create the visual effect of playing on a true links course. In keeping with the links design, David designed the course with 56 sand bunkers, three pot bunkers and one large waste area. One of the bunkers on hole number 12 is a deception bunker appearing next to the green, but in reality is 40 yards in front of the green. The double fairways that David designed on the 16th hole is characteristic of the double fairways of many of the Scottish and English courses.
The 17th hole with its two pot bunkers gives the feeling of playing in the north of Scotland. The ten-foot-deep pot bunker on Hole 15 creates the “hell” found on some of the best European links courses.
Several years ago the golf editor of the Idaho Falls Post decided to play and rate each of the courses in eastern Idaho and the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area. When he came to rate our course I offered to play with him and of course my intent was to start a friendship with him to perhaps enhance his rating of our course. He promptly rebuked my offer in a stern way, which made me nervous that he might take it out on me when he wrote his review and ratings of our course. The day that the ratings came out I was filled with apprehension.
What a relief when I read the lengthy article and found that The Links at Teton Peaks had received the highest rating of A-, higher than all the courses in Eastern Idaho and the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area. The reason that he didn’t give The Links an A is because the club house, in his opinion, was too small.
One of the criteria that he used in his ratings was very interesting. After playing each course, he would go home, sit in an easy chair, have a glass of wine and see how many holes on each course he could visualize in his mind. On some courses he could visualize three or four holes, but on our course he said he could visualize all 18 holes! He also determined how many clubs he used on each course. On our course, he used all 14 clubs in his bag. The Links was the only course where all clubs were used. Needless to say, I was relieved and very proud of the outstanding review we received. Of course, the only reason we received the outstanding rating was because of the genius of David Druzisky.
Besides the masterpiece that David has created for us, he also created a masterpiece in Northern Nevada, as well as teaming up with Jay Morrish to create Dragon Ridge – a truly remarkable course located in Henderson, Nevada near Las Vegas.
We collect art and always hope that the artists we collect will create more paintings so, even though we might not buy them, at least we will have the joy of viewing them. Likewise, we hope that David will create even more golf course masterpieces so we can experience the pleasure of playing them.
Another testament to our course is what those who play say about the course. One season pass holder, Jeff, drove 150 miles round trip from Bondurant, Wyoming, to play The Links several times per month. Jeff and his pal, Mark, truly love playing our course. The Links has almost a cult following. Players from all over eastern Idaho and the Jackson Hole area play the course almost every day. Many are known to play hooky from their jobs in order to enjoy a round on The Links. One golfer recently told us that playing the course and being with his friends at The Links helped him to defeat a very serious illness. The course is almost like a shrine to many golfers. They ask us to never make any changes to David’s magnificent design. Of course, we would never even think of it.
We urge you to come out and play a round. The visual excitement of just looking at each hole and the breathtaking views of the Tetons and the Big Hole range will compel you to return and when you play each hole you will become addicted to this wonderful course. The Links is a course where each hole will require different clubs. The course, like most links courses, sets up a risk-reward situation on almost every hole. Many holes require you deciding between using the driver or a long iron. Sharman says you are usually better off to leave the driver in the bag! Club decision plays a major role on this complicated and fantastic course. Many of the golfers who play this course call it a master piece and we concur. Thank you David for creating a lasting legacy that will withstand the test of time.
